Hi Guys,

i need some help (having a panic attack!)

i honestly dont know what just happend. I checked my ranking thins morning and most of my positions were on page 1 - 30min later one of my colleagues mentioned we had dropped for all keyphrases!

Now the only recent links we have obtained are highly relevant and targeted (i.e. listing in accounting directories/ categories).

Has anyone ever experienced this?

Any help or advice much appreciated.

A couple of question before you have that panic attack:

1. Do you or your colleague have personalised search turned on or did you thismorning when checking your rankings?

2. How old is the site in question? IE have you only launched a week ago or has the site been live for years?

3. Would you mind sharing the url (and a couple of keywords) so people can have a look to see where its ranking and if we have any ideas?

4. Exactly what link building do you do? Simple submitting to directories is not going to get you and keep your ranked for competitive phrases, so you will need to learn to look for and acquire authoritative links.

5. What other seo (both on and off site) have you been doing over the past couple of months?

Last of all, have you been involved in any link networks such as those that google punished?

over 10 years

3. Would you mind sharing the url (and a couple of keywords) so people can have a look to see where its ranking and if we have any ideas? www.danbro.co.uk

keywords - contractor accounting, umbrella company service

4. Exactly what link building do you do? Simple submitting to directories is not going to get you and keep your ranked for competitive phrases, so you will need to learn to look for and acquire authoritative links. many of our links come from high authority sites and are extremely relevant

5. What other seo (both on and off site) have you been doing over the past couple of months?
Mixture of director, links on relevant sites, PR and articles, good content

Last of all, have you been involved in any link networks such as those that google punished?

im left scratchingmy head

That happened to one of my main sites a couple of months back...for no reason at all. There was a sudden drop...went from #1 for all main keywords to page 2-7.

You have to keep the content fresh and hopefully your site will get back to its old positions.

im hoping it is just a blip - we do keep our site as fresh as possible - obviously the service pages are pretty standard and we would not change them too often.

im left scratching my head.

You need to check your site at copyscape.com and report all the copy cat sites which have ripped a copy of your site, they will be damaging your seo if you don't report them to google and the DMCA to have them taken down

Also, it looks like the only link building you have been doing is on blog networks http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/link...t=page&group=0 also http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/doma...w.danbro.co.uk. Not to be rude, but I honestly don't see quality links and I'm sure that's what google thinks to! So you need to re-think your link building strategy or even hire someone that knows how to build quality links.

You might not have seen this as link networks, but because this seems to be where a large majority of your links are coming from, I would guess that some of those blog posts are causing a problem because your link profile don't look very natural.
Hi there,

we have links in pretty much every relevant site you could imagine. yes we have links in blog posts - some outside of our control - i will be looking at any copied conten ton the web though.

many thanks

It's a link farm network. You paid for links and ya got caught.

No it's an ODP based search engine and web directory not a link farm. Classed by G as an age based 'authority' site need I say more! ( I add my blogs and confirm additional & boosted keywords ;-)

hi OPSEO,

i have just looked through daemon links and it appears we list in their spider results. we haven't paid to list in any of their sites. this is not good.

If you didn't do it and it sounds like it because your not in the directory...then someone is using reverse SEO on ya...I would suspect a site below where you usta be.

And then I can't believe Google is letting reverse SEO work to that extent. But that's sure what it looks like.
