I work for a newspaper in New York City. We're a free daily newspaper that has been around for 4 years. Up until last week when you typed in "New York News" we were #5 on Google and for "New York City News" we were #3 (#2 on Yahoo). The site is still showing when you search for the domain in Google (site:amny.com) but we lost all ranking/positioning. A few factors that I should share: Up until 6 weeks ago the url for the site was www.am-ny.com and it was no more then a framed URL to another city Newspaper ...

How are backlinks from .Gov and .Edu sites treated by google. Are they just as any other backlinks or can they do more for your SERPS by giving your site higher credibility? (trust points?) Are they worth the extra job it takes to get them? Originally Posted by G_Gekko How are backlinks from .Gov and .Edu sites treated by google. Yes, absolutely -- the part about not being able to tell whether a page is reputable when a profile is private (and therefore not being able to figure out how to assign weight to the link) is useful to keep in mind ...

Does domain extentions (like .com, .net, .org etc.) really effects on ranking in SERPs? Does google or yahoo gives high priority of .com domains instead of .net domains or vice-versa?? Domain extension like .com, .net or .org doesn't matter for SEO purposes much! But .edu &.gov etc are considered trusted by search engines. If your site has a backlink from them, it will surely affect your rankings in SERPs. .edu seem to be given the highest status .org sites seem to be given high status .com sites excel in ...

So I got a 2 word .net and a 3 word .com (example: seattlepainting.net and seattlewashingtonpainting.com) I know 2 words is better than 3 However does Google or any of the other SE's prefer .com to .net when I start my SEO'ing and with that question - how about .org or .me etc... Do any of these matter when SEO'ing your site? Thanks in advance Oct No Having a .net .com .uk or a .org will not give you an advantage in the SERPS so dont worry about it. As for how many KW's in the URL, just pick which one you ...
