Someone has probably already asked this question, but I didn't see a "search" window, and at 58 I don't have enuff time left to browse all the pages looking for an answer so............ I had 256 MB PC2100 DDR in my comp when pruchased. No Mfgr's name or numbers on that stick. I bought a 256 MB stick from Crucial, same clock speed as the original, same type. Windows says I have 256 MB installed. Everest says I have 256 installed but: [ Memory Modules / DIMM 1 ] Memory Module Properties: Socket Designation ...

I have a dell dimension 4300 which got a virus. I got a friend who is good with computers to try and fix it but he was unable to and said I should just reinstall windows. The computer still shuts down without warning after being on desktop for 2-4 minutes. (I wouldn't have to reinstall windows if I could get the computer to stop shutting down on it's own). The xp pro that was on the computer was not a legal copy, so I went out and purchased a new copy of windows xp pro to install. Now when I try to boot ...

Hi, I've replaced my Toshiba Laptop's 40GB HD with a 100 GB drive. I used Ghost to do a full copy of my XP Pro C: drive to the new drive (attached as a USB external drive). It finished without error. I can read the external drive and everything looks groovy. But when I physically install the new drive as the primary drive and try booting: 1. The BIOS recognizes it and begins the Windows boot sequence. 2. I get my Novell login prompt. 3. It accepts my login, but then Windows immediately begins storing my ...

I just got off the phone with Samsung "level 2" tech support. I have been trying to get my Nexus to connect to my Windows XP host (it's actually in a VirtualBox VM running under Linux, but anyway...) so that I can transfer files to it. I downloaded the drivers from Samsung's support site, and the drivers install fine. But, when I go to connect the phone to it via USB, I get the plug-and-play error: "The required section was not found in the INF." Samsung tech support said that the drivers they supply do ...

Is there any way to create a dual boot system with 98 and XP if I have XP already installed? I havent gone further than the installation screen of 98 where it asked to wipe out all non-dos partitions. I have a seperate partition with FAT32 but Win98 cannot detect it. Yup. Install Partition Magic, partition a couple of extra gigs and have PM reformat that section into FAT32. Then boot from the 98 CDROM and install to that partition. Windows XP should manage the bootup options automatically. edit: didn't ...

Not sure which forum this belongs, please move to the Linux forum if you feel it should be there instead. So I had been running Windows XP on an old computer - and used a monitor switch to toggle between my new computer and the old one. My goal had been to use the older unit strictly for downloads and storage - using the network sharing feature to bring over completed files and whatnot when finished. I got a little fed up with the mess my system had become (XP was installed twice when the root password ...
